Five Ways You Can Start Your Day Off In a Better Mood

Updated: Sep 14, 2021

If you start your morning off in a good mood, you're bound to have a great day, it's obvious. But, sometimes you can't help if you wake up on the wrong side of the bed. But it's a simple fix. Sometimes, you need the perfect kick-start to your morning. If you're reading this, I'm here to correct those crappy kinds of morningswith five simple steps. We all know that starting your day off in a bad mood well sucks.

1. Make your bed.

It's that simple. I can't tell you how many times I would never make my bed in high school or college. When you start making your bed in the morning, I promise you'll feel like you have your life together. This simple fix can make a huge difference in your day. Trust me.

2. Positive affirmations.

Okay. I know this might be hard to do if you're in a bad mood, but try it out anyway. It's simple. Remind yourself what you're grateful for in life. Believe it or not, being nice to yourself goes a long way. Think about it. How many times a day do you ponder on what you don't have or what went wrong? Stop that. Think of what you do have and what is going right. Write down ten things that you are grateful for in life.

Then, write down what you want to appreciate more. Once you start doing this, you'll feel more appreciative of what you do have. Reminding yourself of the good in your life truly can change your day. If you're like, Kerry, but I don't have time for this, I have to go to work. Say it out loud to yourself! Just try it.

3. Listen to a funny podcast or your favorite music.

Playing your favorite music or listening to a funny podcast is a simple way to fix your mood. Sometimes you need that background noise to clear out your thoughts, or maybe you need a good laugh. Music is medicine to the soul, and so is laughing. Whenever I find myself needing some cheering up, doing this always makes me feel better.

4. Be kind to yourself.

Sometimes we can be so hard on ourselves without truly realizing it. It's as simple as catching the negative thoughts in your head. You have to start being kind to yourself. Think, "would I talk to someone else like that?" We can put ourselves down without even noticing. That's where our mindset changes. You deserve to be treated with kindness and respect too. Avoiding self-criticism can change your morning around. If something goes wrong, it's not the end of the world. Think of a way to fix it and go on with your day.

5. Try to pay it forward.

This one is by far the simplest. It's as simple as opening the door for someone, letting someone in front of you on the turnpike, given someone a compliment, etcetera. For instance, one morning, I paid for someone's coffee order at Starbucks. It made my morning and probably theirs. It's the simplest things that can make a huge difference in your day (and someone else's). Doesn't it feel good when you help someone else? You can't say it doesn't. Try it out for yourself.

Start trying to do these five things in the morning or when you find yourself having a bad day!
